The Journey
Welcome to Blue Bird & Opals!
The journey to creating and growing Blue Bird & Opals has been a fun and creative way for me to connect with myself and with others. It's been a huge learning curve - both personally and professionally - and I'm so excited to continue to share this journey with you.
My name is Kelly and I was born and raised in a small town in rural Connecticut. My mother is super creative and artsy and my father is a musician who happens to also have an eye for art. I guess it's safe to say I'm a right-side-of-the-brain kind of person, and naturally picked up drawing, painting, and other creative processes as a kid. Over the last few years I've lost my passion for painting (although I will pick it back up one day) and gained a love for fibers
It started with knitting... I learned to knit and ended up knitting about one thousand different styles of dishcloths (exaggeration but not far off). I went out and bought every size needle and every type of yarn you could think of. I ended up knitting every chance I got. I even became one of those airplane-weavers that carries skeins of yarn in her carry on, and no, I'm not exaggerating about that one.
After a little less than a year, the knitting evolved into weaving. I basically stumbled upon weaving by accident and now it's a passion mixed with a little bit of obsession. There are so many talented weaving artists out there... the inspiration really is never ending. My main mission of Blue Bird & Opals is to create unique, handmade pieces of art that bring love and joy into your space, while inspiring others to do the same.
Thank you to everyone that has supported this weaving journey of mine so far. Stay tuned for what's to come as I continue to learn, grow, and create...
With love,
Kelly
